The calendar says it’s almost spring, but the weather and the seed company say differently.
Rain has slowed plowing, discing and harrowing the Dare™ spring malting barley fields. Work is done in two of the four fields. Not bad for this time of year, but we hoped to be further along. Spring is ideal for growing malting barley and the sooner we get it in the ground the better the harvest in the fall.
We’re also waiting for the seed to arrive. Some delay getting seed is typical this time of year as barley farmers across the country get ready for spring planting.
The journey from ground to glass continues, sometimes slowly, sometimes fast.
