With the sun fading over the Coast Range, we finished bringing in our Alluvial hops this weekend and the 2014 Rogue Farms Hop Harvest came to a close.
Four weeks, seven varieties of hops, 350 bales, one big celebration.
The harvest season began in mid-August when our Freedom hops were the first to become ripe and ready for picking. It takes 48-hours to pick, strip, sort, separate, kiln, cool and bale each variety. We repeated the intense round-the-clock work six more times as we brought in our Independent, Yaquina, Rebel, Liberty, Revolution and Alluvial hops.
On Sunday, we rested and celebrated with the Rogue Farms Hop Harvest Festival. A couple of hundred of our friends and neighbors joined us for a day of good beer and spirits, food, music and games.
But we’re not yet ready to call it a season. We still have four acres of Wigrich Corn to pick.
And our one acre patch of jalapeño peppers.
