Growing Beer, Spirits And More In 2015

2014 was an incredible year for us at Rogue Farms. We seeded, cultivated and harvested two new grains, picked our first crop of orchard fruit as well as more than a dozen other crops, and opened the Rogue Cidery and Sodaery.


So what’s in store for 2015? Look for our first batch of Oregon Rye Whiskey, plus new beers, ciders and sodas. Here’s what we’re growing in the new year for our always expanding proprietary palate of flavors.

The hops we grow in the Wigrich Appellation will be brewed into all of our ales, porters, lagers, stouts, kolsch, braggots and one of our ciders.

Risk™ and Dare™ malting barley: Rogue Farms, Tygh Valley, Oregon

In the high desert of Eastern Oregon, we grow 200 acres of malting barley which we’ll floor malt and micro-malt to craft all of our beers and whiskeys.

Wildflower Honey: Rogue Farms, Independence, Oregon

From early spring to late summer, our 7,140,289 honeybees gather nectar from a diverse supply of wildflowers and cultivated plants. The honey they make for us has all the flavors of the terroir of Rogue Farms. Taste it for yourself in our mead, kolsch, braggot and sodas.

In 2015, we’re expanding our garden of botanicals to grow even more ingredients for our gins, sodas and sauces. On the list are marionberries, juniper, cucumbers, orris root, coriander, chamomile, angelica, ginger, grains of paradise and mustard.

Wigrich Corn: Rogue Farms, Independence, Oregon

It’ll be another year before we begin serving our Sweet Corn Bourbon. But after all the work we’ve put into it, hand picking, hand shucking, hand shelling the ears, and then floor malting and micro malting the kernels, we think it’ll be worth the wait.

The first harvestable crop from our orchard in Tygh Valley produced an abundance of apples, cherries, peaches, pears, plums and apricots. There was so much fruit, we started crafting Rogue Cider. Here’s to another great year in 2015!

McKercher Wheat: Rogue Farms, Independence, Oregon

Our great-grandparents were wheat millers, farmers and pioneers of the southern Willamette Valley. We named our McKercher Wheat for them and will use the grain to brew MoM Hefeweizen.

Is that everything? Probably not. Brewmaster John Maier is always looking for new beers to brew and new spirits to mash. We’ll add more ingredients to our proprietary palate so that John has everything he needs to keep the Revolution strong and growing.
