(February 5, 2020) — This year we launched Rogue Venture Capital, a fund dedicated to employee side quests. We've awarded 10 tenacious employees with capital to work on passion projects. Six awardees here and here are already hard at work on their dream projects. Meet the final four 2020 Venture Capital recipients and stay tuned for progress updates throughout the year.
Rogue: Emily Kersting, Job Title: Territory Sales Manager, Project: Liberty Training
What is Liberty Training exactly? Emily broke it down for us, “Liberty Training is an artistic type of horse training. The goal of this training style is to develop a true connection between human and horse based on herd behaviors and body cues. During this style of training you don’t use any ropes or confining tools. Instead you cultivate a willing attitude within the horse.” Already adept on her horse, Emily will be using her funds for one-on-one Liberty Training lessons. Ride on, Emily!
Rogue: Marissa Avila, Job Title: Marketing Coordinator, Project: Flamenco
Marissa, an artist, plant-lover and the social media guru at Rogue, loves to find unique ways to express herself, and she's going to use her funds to express herself through dance. “I saw flamenco dancers perform at a festival last summer and was awed by the poise and power they exhibited. The music and attitude of flamenco is so intense, and I can’t wait to channel my energy and emotion into it,” says Marissa. ¡Bravo! Get after it and promise to show off your moves.
Rogue: Kevin McNichols, Job Title: Director of National Accounts, Project: Salsa King Expansion
The DIY/GYO spirit runs thick here at Rogue. You may know that we have a farm, but did you know we also have a healthy crop of home gardeners? Kevin up in Washington has had a community garden for the past 16 years where he grows all sorts of vegetables including tomatoes to make salsa. Kevin has big plans to expand his canning abilities with his Rogue VC funds. Kevin’s going to invest in large scale canning equipment to make more salsa that he can enjoy and even donate to local food banks.. We’ll be your willing test recipe guinea pigs, Kevin. Bring on the heat!
Rogue: Josh Marshall, Job Title: Rogue Market Manager, Project: Music Production
Music is a meditative escape for Josh, so he’s planning to use his funds to buy equipment to loop, synthesize, record, and edit him playing his instruments. He ultimately wants to learn to layer his music and share it with the world. Josh has always used music as a source of therapy as well as an expression of art and emotion. Let the music flow, Josh. We’re ready to enjoy all the music you produce.
