Rogue ales and spirits continue to grow on our farm in Independence, Oregon right along the Willamette Valley. We've got 22 acres of new hops now sprouting along with pumpkins, marionberries and a garden full of revolutionary beer and spirits ingredients.
July 11, 2019 — We've been growing hops on Rogue Farms since 2008. Last year, we harvested 52 acres of ten different types of hops and ended up with 79,851 lbs. of hops. That's a lot of hops.
So this year, it seemed like a good time to risk a little and change things up. In the spring, we focused all our energy on 22 acres where we planted four new hop rhizomes. There is now five acres of Sterling hops, five acres of Perle hops, six acres of Strata hops and six acres of El Dorado hops growing on our farm in Independence, Oregon.
Last week, we noticed that a few of those rhizomes are already sprouting on the farm.
Dead Guy Ale is already brewed with Sterling and Perle, Batsquatch is crafted with El Dorado, Rouge incorporates Strata and there are so many more possibilities for these new hops to come.
It'll be at least a couple years before the rhizomes produce hops that we can use for brewing. But it's worth the wait to be able to grow our own beer.
