Dedicated to International Rogue Phred Kaufmann, Rogue's Japan Distributor, and Celebrating 10 years of selling Rogue in Japan. Black Soba is a darker and more complex version of the Morimoto Soba Ale (part of Rogue's Signature Series). Roasted malts provide a rich nut-laced flavor, while the 3 hops blend to provide a refreshing zest. It is brewed with Roasted Soba, 2-row Pale, Munich, C-15, C-60, & Weyermann Malts; Horizon, Sterling and Cascade Hops; Free-range Coastal Water and PacMan Yeast. Black Soba weighs in at 12-degrees Plato, 36-degrees Lovibond, 75.2 percent Apparent Attenuation, and 30 International Bittering Units. Enjoy Black Soba Ale on its own or paired with summer fare like grilled vegetables, chicken or fish. A limited edition bottle and glass will also be available for sale at all five Rogue Public Houses where Black Soba Ale will be on tap through August 15th. GONE AWRY ========= John Maier brewed yet another unique beer for the Oregon Brewers Festival, a Rye Pale Ale dubbed Gone Awry IPA. Brewed with Rye, 2 row Pale, Carawheat and Carafoam Malts; Centennial-type (a new Hop Union hop variety: 70% Cascade and 30% Columbus), Mt Hood, Horizon and Amarillo hops; Gone Awry measures in at 17 degrees Plato, 72 IBU, 7.5 percent ABV, and 82 percent Apparent Attenuation. Its pale color belies the in-your-face bracing hoppiness and long lasting finish of our 15th Oregon Brewers' Festival Beer. A tongue-tingling experience. Kudos also go to Denny Conn, the homebrewer who's Rye IPA recipe impressed and influenced John into commercially brewing a batch, albeit with some Rogue adjustments. Read Denny's comments about how his recipe and John's are similar, yet different: http://www.tastybrew.com/forum/thread/14610 AMERICAN BEER MONTH =================== American Beer Month is a time to explore the diversity of styles and flavors of beer brewed today by more then 1400 breweries in the U.S. The American Beer Month web site sums it up: " July is American Beer Month, a time to learn about, seek out and enjoy great American brews. For details about how these grass-roots and internet-based campaigns work, visit: http://www.worldclassbeer.org and http://www.popthecap.org . Georgians can now find a wider--and stronger--selection Rogue Ales in stores and restaurants. The article reveals a new cheese introduced at the Fancy Food Show in New York in June, Rogue Chocolate Stout Cheddar. The curds are made from whole milk from a single herd of Holstein's raised at Bonanza View Dairy in Oregon. The curds are hand-rolled with Rogue Ales' Chocolate Stout and organic chocolate syrup from Dagoba, both for color and to help bind the beer and curds, giving it a marbled appearance. Rogue was one of the breweries showcased in Episode FLINS-107 as Fine Living explores the history of malt beverages and why beers like Dead Guy Ale have become a cult adult beverage. Rogue Ales was ranked the #2 Craft Brewer in the U.S. Visit www.fineliving.com for details. On Tap is a special publication from the Herald Sun (Durham, NC) and the Southeastern Microbrewers Association, founded by Tyrone Irby. http://www.southeasternmicroassociation.com/smawebsitejulypage.html The July 30th edition, included with the Herald Sun newspaper, has interviews with Julie Bradford of All About Beer Magazine, Sean Wilson of Pop the Cap, and a feature on Women in Beer which includes a Rogue original, Sebbie Buhler. The 12 page premier issue is also on-line and includes recipes and is a must read for anyone in the Research Triangle Park/Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. http://www.southeasternmicroassociation.com/On%20Tap%201st%20issue%20all.pdf What beer to serve with lobster? On June 24th he wrote that Rogue Dead Guy Ale pushes the envelope 6 feet under and a post-mortem may be required. The sound-byte: full-bodied, flavor with great character, and very well-balanced. Thanks to all the folks who took the time to contact us about a recent email that appeared to be from Rogue and RealBeer. It threatened cancellation of your email account due to improper use. The email was spam. The attachment contained a virus and the grammar was a dead giveaway that this was an offshore attack. So, if the onslaught of bogus email attacks drives you to drink, turn off your computer and grab a Rogue Ale. ROGUE HASH ========== What has four letters, comes in a can and can be as misconstrued as SPAM? Hash...and Rogue has a thing for Hasher's, as in Hash House Harriers. A self proclaimed drinking club with a running problem, the Harriers have been sighted at Rogue Pubs in Oregon and California.
