The 2002 brew, Charlie 1981 Redux, is an unfiltered strong ale. The intense, piney, hop aroma is achieved by dry-hopping with Amarillo hops (1 pound per barrel). The rich malt background carries a powerful hop character that explodes on the palate, and lingers through the aftertaste. Not for the faint of heart! Charlie 1981 Redux is brewed with eight ingredients: 2 row pale, Munich, and Crystal 40 malts; Horizon, Sterling and Amarillo hops; free range coastal water and Rogue's proprietary top fermenting pac-man yeast, no chemicals, no preservatives, no kidding! Charlie 1981 Redux measures in around: 18.2 degrees plato, 70 International Bittering Units, 80 Apparent Attenuation, and 31 degrees Lovibond. Available on tap during OBF at the festival and at Rogue Public Houses. Curious about the name? 1981 was the year John Maier started homebrewing and it was Charlie Papazian's influential book and homebrew club that inspired John. This is the second, hence Redux, batch of Charlie 1981. The original batch was bottled as the Symposium Ale for the 2001 Craft Brewers Conference in Portland, and aptly named Charlie 1981. Prior eight years of OBF beers brewed by Rogue: 2001 - Brew 5000 (Belgian Dubble) 2000 - Incinerator Dopplebock 1999 - Imperial Pilsner 1998 - Brutal Bitter 1997 - DoppleBock 1996 - Imperial India Pale Ale - I2PA 1995 - McRogue Scotch Ale 1994 - Dopple Mogul (twice the grain and hops of regular Mogul) AND THE WINNERS ARE =================== Results from the Summer 2002 United States Beer Tasting Competition have just been announced. Three Rogue's won "Best of the NW/Pacific": Rogue American Amber - in the Amber/Red category (for the third year!), Rogue Half-a-Weizen - in the Belgian/French Speciality category, and Rogue Honey Cream Ale - in the Golden Ale category. Honey Cream took top honors as the National Grand Champion! Results will be published in All About Beer. ROGUE.COM ========= rogue.com is in the midst of a redesign.
