During the year-long celebration on the 15th of the month a new beer will be tapped at 15:15 hours (3:15 PST) at the five Rogue pubs. And each month a limited edition bottle, special tap handle, t-shirt, and pint glass will be released to commemorate each new or retro style beer of the month. Shirts, pints and bottled product will be available for sale only at the five Rogue Public Houses...Rogue-Trip! Chris is brewed with organic Hallertau Hops from New Zealand and two types of organic malts: Weyermann Pilsner and Briess Munich. Chris is filtered and has a crisp pilsner quality, but its part ale, since the yeast used for this recipe was Rogue's PacMan top fermenting yeast. The recipe was developed by and named for Rogue Brewer Chris Spollen. Released on November 15th, Chris is available in a special 22-ounce seriograph bottle and on tap at Rogue Ales Public Houses, but only until December 14, 2003, unless it sells out prior...whichever happens first. December 15th is the debut of Brewer, the third in the series of anniversary ales from Rogue. 'TIS THE SEASON =============== Santa's Private Reserve, normally a double-hopped version of the Saint Rogue Red, proves hoppier in 2003 with nearly three times the lupulin! John Maier claims its the best batch he and his merry brewers have made. The spice in this holiday elixir is strictly hops, Chinook and Centennial, and weighs in around 60+ International Bittering Units (the bottle and web page claim its 40...but the brewers admit this is too low!) Chocolate Stout and Yellow Snow, our other special offerings during the winter months (November through February) are both available in select markets in 22 ounce bottles and draft. Chocolate Stout uses Shakespeare Stout as the base, infused with the essence of Dutch bittersweet chocolate. Yellow Snow is a pale ale infused with juniper berries, giving it a dry and crisp finish. Beer drinkers of the year, Cornelia (2001) and Ray (2003), sent this web page link for a Scottish trowl figurine...or TROW...which according to the internet is Scottish for Rogue. How about a Rogue figurine for the beer bottle collector friend for the holidays? Its a MacScottish MacLaomainn Trow, not just any trowl. http://www.designtoscano.com/jump.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&itemID=4649 Holiday Garage Sales are slated for all Rogue Ales Public Houses from December 26-29, so plan ahead for New Years Eve and 2004. Details will be posted on rogue.com/news-events.html BEER AND HOLIDAY FARE ===================== Every November wine and food writers pontificate about what wine to serve during the holidays. The articles begin at Thanksgicving and continue through New Years but rarely is beer recommended as the beverage to pair with a hearty holiday feast! Pontificate no more, especially if the beverage has hops, lots of hops--both in the nose and the finish--and a rich, malty backbone. Beer has all the right hooks as Garrett Oliver explains in his book The BrewMasters Table. Need a beer recommendation to wash down the infamous holiday fruit cake? Try Brutal Bitter or Rogues Imperial India Pale Ale. Rob Kasper of the Baltimore Sun took a stand on beer as the preferred beverage for before, during and after a holiday meal (cut/pasted both lines into your web browser): http://www.sunspot.net/features/bal-fo.kasper 19nov19,0,5590118.column?coll=bal-home-columnists Bill Schneller posted a message on the Oregon Brew Crew forum: "With turkey and the fixins, I think these would work well: Rogue St Red: Beers with a maltier profile would also go well, and I think the caramel notes in Rogue would pick up on any caramelized flavors from the roasted turkey, roasted vegetables (oven roasted onions, carrots, or parsnips), the richer flavors in the stuffing, and the pan gravy. The hops would give it a snapiness that you need when youre eating so much." Lisa Morrison of KIROTV and a fellow Oregon Brew Crewer, posted this article about which beers she selected for her bird. http://www.kirotv.com/food/2650106/detail.html What about Desert? Here are two cheesecake recipes from Rogue Chef Adam Wilson of the Rogue Ales Public House (.pdf Acrobat format): http://www.rogue.com/pdfs/RogueChocStoutChzCakeRecipe.pdf and http://www.rogue.com/pdfs/RogueHazelNutChzCakeRecipe.pdf Got Rogue Cheese? If you like cheese and you like it blue, we highly recommend the award winning Rogue Creamery from Central Point, Oregon. Our friends at Rogue took three distinguished honors at the 2003 World Cheese Awards in London last month, including Best American Cheese. Kudos RC! There are rumors it is the Best Cheese in the Universe ~ at least amongst us Rogues! http://www.roguegoldcheese.com/cheesetalk.html http://www.rogue.com/news-events.html#menus DARKER BEER IS HEALTHIER ======================== "Like chocolate and wine, the darker the beer, the better it may be for your heart, according to a new study...the beneficial effect comes from flavonoids in the beer." http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/12/1068329626485.html Follow this link to an article on the benefits of drinking beer. http://www.allaboutbeer.com/features/233beer&health.html Rogue offers a variety of healthy dark beers: Mocha Porter, Shakespeare Stout, Chocolate Stout, Russian Imperial Stout, and the Morimoto HazelNut Brown Ale. If there is ever a question about Rogue being good for you, follow this link to Mike Greensteins article which describes Rogue I2PA as "almost like a nectar, perhaps crossing the line between beer and medicine." http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2003/1116/taste.html ROGUE IN NYC ============ The recent sale of Brooklyn Brewerys distribution business has allowed Rogue to move to Union Beverage, a Brooklyn based Bud wholesaler with a new Manhattan division solely dedicated to craft beer, including Rogue! While we appreciate all that Brooklyn did for brands like Rogue over the years, we look forward to working with Union and having a wider selection of Rogue Ales in the Big Apple and Unions service to match! If you are looking for Rogue in NYC, contact Union Beverage at 718-497-2407 or email seb@rogue.com for details.
