IPA MAY: 31 Days of India Pale Ale

February 19, 2016

IPA MAY will return this year and we can’t wait to celebrate those hoppy ales for 31 days. We’re only a couple months away so we whipped up a refresher for you.

What is IPA MAY?

It’s an entire month dedicated to the India Pale Ale (IPA) beer style. May is an ideal time to get reacquainted with a beer style that’s perfectly suited for the summer months. And we appreciate all types of IPA, whether we’re talking about the maltier English IPA or the hop-forward American IPA. It’s important to recognize the impact the hops have on brewing beer and how important those hops are in the India Pale Ale recipe.

What’s an IPA?

Seriously? It’s a beer style characterized by an abundance of hops in the recipe. There are also different categories of IPAs, like an English IPA which tends to be more malty and an American IPA which highlights the bitterness of American hops.

Why May?

Aside from the obvious rhyme scheme, May is a great month to drink & celebrate IPA. The style is most popular during warmer months and May is one of the first of those warmer months for most of us. As hop growers here in Oregon, we’re excited for the return of May and an opportunity to drink and celebrate IPAs for an entire month, IPA MAY.

How can I participate in IPA MAY?

Raise a glass of IPA between May 1 and May 31. Try our Brutal IPA, New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta, one of our Hop Family IPAs or any number of IPAs available nationwide.
