PORTLAND, OR – Jack Joyce believed in education. In his honor, Rogue, Columbia Distributing and a mystery donor teamed up to present one $10,000 scholarships to two OSU Fermentation Science students. But when faced with three deserving candidates and only two scholarships, the man who inspired the scholarship also inspired the solution. On Wednesday October 29th at the Rogue Public House & Distiller on NW Flanders, all three candidates were awarded one $10,000 scholarship each because that’s what Jack would have done.
Winners Trevor Lauman, Amanda Mae Woodruff and Daniel Sharp are all students in OSU’s Fermentation Science program. Oregon State University’s Fermentation Science Program is a “hands on” program that educates students in food science, particularly focused on beer and wine. They are one of very few programs of their kind. Graduates of the program become part of the Oregon’s strong brewing community.
