In early February 1989, Rogue founder, Jack Joyce wandered to Newport in search of the perfect place for another Rogue pub. A terrible and unusual snowstorm struck and Jack was stranded in Newport along its Historic Bay Front. He walked the streets and happened upon Mohava Niemi, founder of Mo’s Restaurants. Mo extended her signature hospitality, welcoming him to the city with her famous clam chowder. Over a bowl, Mo shared her dream of living above a bar and described the perfect spot for the next Rogue Ales Brew Pub. Mo offered her large vacant space and garage to Jack at a very generous price under two stipulations:
1. A picture of Mo herself, naked in a bathtub be forever displayed at the pub. (You can find one today behind the bar at every Rogue Ales Public House.)
2. “Feed the Fishermen,” Mo’s way of saying give back to the local community. Mo believed that when times were tough you took care of your own and when times were good they’d take care of you. In this spirit Rogue continues the tradition of giving that began in 1988.
In 2013 the Rogue Foundation helped over 200 charities in our local communities.

Some things to know before you call or email your donation request:
- Know Rogue, be a Rogue Nation member and have a favorite Rogue beer. Even better, have a brass nameplate at the bar or know the name of a Rogue bartender.
- When asking for a donation, please give us at least 30 days before your event. 60 days is even better.
