Rogue Spirits: White Rum features pirate Jean Lafitte on the label and won a Bronze medal at the 2003 International Rum Festival in St Johns, Newfoundland; and a Bronze at the 2004 International Review of Spirits.
NY Magazines review states Rogue Spirits: White Rum is
"a full-bodied rum with a bite to match, from Oregon, of all places. The
clear scent belies a charcoal flavor and tingly aftertaste that serious drinkers will appreciate.
Tastings.com describes Rogue Spirits: White Rum" as: "Clear with a faint
straw cast. Jumbled cotton candy and lower alcohol aromas are prosecco-like.
A soft brisk entry leads to a dryish light-to medium-bodied palate with butter
cream, peppery spice... Finishes quickly with a
hot, peppery, vanilla fudge fade. An unusual assortment of flavors that might
add a radical twist to conventional cocktails."
Rogue Spirits: White Rum received a score of 92 from Anthony Dias Blue in Pattersons Beverage Journal, "A lush, smooth Oregon-made rum with vanilla, spice and creamy texture; rich and intense."
Rogue Spirits: Dark Rum
features Black Beard on the label and
is described by Tastings.com as "Deep amber color. Toffee, stemmy oak, and
nutmeg aromas. A round entry leads to a oily, somewhat limp, sweet and sour
medium-bodied palate with toffee, roasted nuts, and spice. Finishes with
a nutty, spicy fade and peppery alcohol."
Rogue Spirits newest rum distillation is Hazelnut Spice Rum made with 8 Ingredients: Toasted Oregon Hazelnuts, Orange peel, Madagascar Bourbon, Vanilla Bean, Cinnamon, Clove, Hawaiian cane sugar, Champagne yeast, and Free Range Coastal Water.
Rogue Rum is handcrafted in 567 litre grundies using Hawaiian cane sugar, Champagne yeast, and Free Range Mountain Water in the loft space above the bar at the Rogue Distillery and Public House, 1339 NW Flanders Street in Portland
The Rogue House of Spirits in Newport, Oregon opened for business on June 10th, 2006. Distiller John Couchot is teaming up with Rogue Brewmaster John Maier to produce Rogue Gin, Wasabi Vodka, and Cherry Vodka. Rogue Spirits latest concoction, Spruce Gin, was over two years in the making. John Couchot of Rogues House of Spirits in Newport is currently producing Spruce Gin in a hand crafted 150 gallon Vendome copper pot still.
Rogue Spirits Spruce Gin, a hybrid London Dry Genevere style Gin is made with a unique twist--whole Willamette Valley cucumbers and spruce are just 2 of the 11 mostly native Northwest ingredients. Beginning with free range coastal water, ten other botanicals are then absorbed into the mix: juniper berries, angelica root, orange peel, lemon peel, ginger, orris root, grains of paradise, tangerine, and finally whole Willamette valley cucumbers and spruce. Cucumbers for the recent batches were purchased from former Rogue employee Lisa Unger, who now owns and operates Jims Fruit Stand near Corvalis.
The House of Spirits will feature fine wines, outhouses, lottery, cheeses from Rogue Creamery, apparel, beer to-go, hand made root beer, and of course, our very own Rogue Spirits, artisan distilled on premise. Rogues House of Spirits is located at 2122 Marine Science Drive in Newport.
Rogue House of Spritis is locoated at 2122 Marine Science Dr., Newport, OR 97365. Telephone: (541) 867-3670.

December 2007: Miami Herald picks Rogue Chocolate Stout as The Best Beer for 2007!   "...as thick as Hersheys chocolate syrup, sweet-tart and creamy and, with a scoop of Reeses Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, makes a great adult float."
December 2007:
Rogue Wire Service has photos of Oregon Governor Kulongoski assessing the recent Vernonia floods. Note that he is wearing the custom Rogue Nation hat made in summer 2007 for the Oregon National Guard ceremony.
Dec 18, 2007: Jack Joyce graces the pages of the NY Times Business Section as part of a discussion of grain pricing amongst various industries, including brewing. [ob] While there are short term yield/crop availability issues with hops and barley worldwide, John "more hops" Maier will not compromise his beers with less ingredients or inferior products.

October 1, 2007:
Morimoto and Me,
By Burnt Lumpia--
In addition to pimping his cookbook, Morimoto was also pushing his signature beer with Rogue Brewery. This is actually a beer that Ive enjoyed before, so I was especially excited when I found out they were providing it as part of the ...
September 8,2006:
Try Rogues Hazelnut Brown Nectar with Beechers Flagship Cheddar--a recommendation by Janet Fletcher in her San Francisco Gate column--in fact the pairing suggestion was made by Beechers Handmade Cheese owner Kurt Dammeier!
August 23,2006:
Dont soliloquize -- just drink Shakespeare Stout . A great title for a review by William Brand who has written quite a few words about beer from his Bay Area perch, and reflects on how good this beer was, and still is! Kudos to William, who chose not to homebrew an oatmeal stout, and to brewer John Maier, for continuing to dial this one in!
July 2006:
Rogue Rocks:
Dead Guy Ale is alive with flavor - an article celebrating Jerry Garcia (his birthday is August 1st) and Rogues Dead Guy Ale.
Summer 2006:
Bringing Beer to the Table -- Pairing beer with food brings an untapped flavor partner from behind the bar, at a premium profit for operators. An article by Stephen Beaumont in Flavor & The Menu Magazine. Bravo!
April 2006:
People are talking about: Morimoto and his new restaurant in New York City--including Jeffrey Steingarten of Vogue (and a judge on Food Networks Iron Chef America) who finished his review (and his expectations of Chefs chawan mushim) with these final words, "it was all I dreamed of, and more."
February 2006: Penthouse calls Rogue Shakespeare Stout "Liquid Gold!"
February 2006:
Rogue Creamery featured in Martha Stewart Living From my home to yours -- A cheese tasting from Crocodile Tear to Rogue River Blue, page 25, which
continues on page 26
including signatures from several of the cheese makers are on this scanned
page. Note the pilsner glasses of beer in Marthas photo...beer and cheese
can take on wine and cheese anytime, anywhere!
January 2006: Better Homes and Gardens ~ In good Taste headline reads, Teamwork: Beer, Blue Cheese, and Cheddar
Kudos to our friend David Gremmels for making some of the best cheeses in
the universe, and for using Rogue Ales in some of his recipes. Check out
their blues, Rogue Chocolate Stout Cheddar and the new Soba Ale Cheddar (Morimoto
Signature Series Soba!) Note
the pilsner glass of BEER in the phto (we all know beer is a better match
than wine with artisan cheese), could it be Rogue Imperial India Pale Ale,
or perhaps Morimoto Imperial Pilsner? Either would pair beautifully with the Rogue Creamery Oregonzola pictured on page 74.
January/February 2006: Beer My Valentine -- candy may be sweet, but beer--like love--is intoxicating. Philadelphias Style Magazine included Rogues HazelNut Brown Nectar with
five other beers to impress your sweetie, but mistakenly labeled it as part
of the Morimoto Signature Series (which is was in 2003-2004, but reverted
to its original label in 2005 with homebrewer Chris Studdach on the label.)
Regardless of the name snufu, the bottom line is what makes the beer in this
bottle so special! "The secret ingredient is Rogues "free range" coastal water. This
drink is great all by itself instead of dessert, or pick up a baguette and
some blue cheese, drizzle a biy of honey on top and call it lunch."
December 24, 2005: Leave Santa some seasonal suds
is the advice from St Petersburg Times...everybody does cookies and milk;
catch the big guys attention with one of these specialty beers. Santas
Private Reserve: "Reddish ale with candied malts in the forefront balanced
by strong piney hops in the end. Bracing as a Northwoods winter, warming
as a campfire."
December 24, 2005: Beer from Santas private stash is good, if you can handle the hops ,
an article in Appletons Post Crescent... Beer Man Todd Haefer wrote: " two
weeks ago at T.W. Martins Publick House in Waupaca. Lo and behold, when
I asked if they had any holiday beers, the bartender pulled out a 22-ounce
bottle of Santas Private Reserve Ale, from Rogue Ales. [snip] Beer Man sez:
Santas Private Reserve will satisfy hopheads."
December 17, 2005: Santas on tap for the Solstice at Rich Os.
November, 2005: Rogue Chocolate Stout: Its one drunk milkshake, according to Jon Filson, a Canadian Food Writer/Journalist, who concludes:
"If youve ever thought that the idea of chocolate and beer wont work, this
is a good spot to start convincing yourself otherwise." Jon analyzes
the experience, "The pour alone is worth the five bucks -- the tall, deep-brown
frothy head is the first thing youll notice. Finish emptying the bottle
into the glass and youll have what looks like a Pop Tart milkshake. Youll want to put a straw in it.
But dont. Sip instead, and youll see its still very much a beer --
there are enough hops in it that youd never call it anything else. And some
people Ive served this to dont even notice the chocolate right away. Take
your time. I find that with chocolate beers, the first sip is never the best
indicator. Its about the fifth or six, when the flavours fully surround
your mouth, that the beer takes off. "
November, 2005: Chef Morimoto Opens Pauli Motos -- a new Asian Bistro opens at Tysons Corner Center in VA. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto has partnered with Restaurateurs Paul Ardaji Sr. and Paul Ardaji Jr in the first of several Pauli Motos Asian Bistros to open.
"Pauli Motos is a contemporary Asian Bistro, with professional and friendly
American hospitality, serving moderately priced popular dishes representing
Chinese and Japanese cuisines created by culinary director, the highly acclaimed
Masaharu Morimoto. Chinese dishes are from the four culinary regions of China;
Sichiuan, Hunan, Mongolian, and Canton. Japanese offerings include exciting
sushi rolls, Chef Morimoto specialties, and authentic Japanese charcoal grill,
called Robata Yaki. Pauli Motos
will feature a vast array of specialty drinks and martinis and a large selection
of cold and hot sake and offer Morimotos own line of beer and sake." www.paulimotos.com
November 9, 2005: Things You Never Learned in School: Pilgrims Connection to Beer
...an
article by Grek Kitsock give a thumbs up for Rogue Smoke with gravy-drenched
holiday fare... "Patterned after the Rauchbiers of Bamberg, Germany, is Rogue
Smoke from Newport, Ore., brewed with malt smoked over beechwood and alderwood.
Available in 22-ounce silk-screened bottles, Rogue Smoke has an almost bacon-like
aroma, a rich, oily sweetness up front and a bitter, well-hopped finish that
cuts through gravy-drenched, fatty foods."
October 26, 2005: Whats the Drink of the Week in St Louis? ...why Dead Guy Ale, of course... at Dewerys Pizza no less...as selected by The Riverfront Times, St. Louiss alternative newsweekly!
October 10, 2005: Rogue Racing Team News

a special report in the Sunday Oregonian Section "O!", includes a Food &
Drink Column on page 13 (middle right of the center page spread--what great
real estate) with a photo of Rogue Chocolate Stout bottle and this manifesto...

Rogue Brewing, Newport OR, and Cabots Smoky Bacon Cheddar. This
was a champ. The cheese was creamy and rich _ and the bacon gave
it a dreamy, smoky note. Add the Chocolate Stout, whew."
Now that is an idea for an unusual fondue or welsh rarebit!
